These dolls where for brothers. I didn't have a photo of the Daddy to show you likeness but it was my first order for two the same! How great to be seeing double!
A good friend of mine who I had made a doll for in the past (currently can't find photos as old laptop has died since then and so not sure what memory/computer/disc they are on!) and so wanted one for her Grandchild. It can sometimes feel more nerve wrecking knowing they couple who are going to receive the doll! Knowing how special a doll in the wedding outfit is going to be, it was a great privilege to get the essence of the the Daddy in the doll. The bow tie and braces was a new challenge, which I loved! (and promptly had my son ordering the Doctor Who doll you saw a couple of post ago!)
Here is a view of the back and close up of the tie.....
Happy sewing x
Who doesn't love a bow tie and braces?!
And did you spot the bike cuff links? aren't they just wonderful!
Had real fun with this doll! The client and myself did some emailing to and fro, chatting through what she would like and learning more about the Daddy in question. Then I did her a mood board/drawings to help us see where to go with this doll.
Was fun to explore t-shirt and shorts and add the details to the t-shirt.
and the was also a guitar to make for this rocking Daddy! Here he is having a Jam with his friends!
This doll has landed! see more pics on the facebook page.
I thought I would try to share the custom doll process through a blog as I make them so you can see the process and anything else I feel might be good to say :)
Welcome to The Crafty Elm! I am Hannah and I design, sew and stuff the dolls and toys at The Crafty Elm.
Not to do my family a disservice , they are part of the action too. My Husband Tim helps out when he can- chief unpicker!(luckily not often needed!but he has more patiences for it than me), he helped make all the original screen printing equipment and helps with all the testing and anything else I need! and most importantly brings me cups of tea in the evening while I sew or gives the kids breakfast in the morn if I need to do some business before he goes to Work himself, like this morning!
My children are chief testers/models and give me loads of feed back and really put their dolls through their paces! and still come to the machine and order more dolls! :)
In the past I have hired a pattern cutter and really miss her! Hello Catherine , if you are reading this :) you were so good! but had to let her go when we moved house and haven't found a replacement yet!
So we'll start with the original Daddy doll above! I made these two dolls for my kids. My Husband has ginger hair and glasses :) Not hard to capture in a doll !
Since I have made loads more for them. 'John' doll below (looks like a friend of ours)
and the latest doll for birthday! (can you guess who it's based on? ! and one of the first Mummy dolls being taken to see the chickens at the allotment!
They do have more than this but the are all over the house and car so don't often come all together but did have a photoshoot with the current one's in the shop this weeks so I will leave you with a pic of that! :)
